the Laura has landed.

Thanks all for keeping this blog updated, and saving me the trouble of playing phone-tag with the world. I am now arrived in California, so i guess this blog is on hiatus until my next grand adventure.

Done and done

Laura arrived home (well, her sister's place) just after 1:30 this afternoon. I expect she'll be posting photos of fun things she saw sometime tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, she's got two phone interviews. One with Yahoo (for a position in Santa Monica, CA), the other with Embarq (for a position in Kansas City). Too bad they didn't call her last week.... she could have driven to the interviews on her way back to the bay area and saved the companies some money.

Lost and gone forever

I caught up with Laura on my way in to work this morning. She had just past the Lost Hills (which is a good place to stop for inexpensive gas when going to or from LA) and was expecting to arrive in Sunnyvale this afternoon.

Praise be!

Just heard from laura. She's a few miles shy of St. George Utah, after making a short stop in Zion National Park. Tonight, she finally gets to California. Hallelujah!

Scorched Earth

After nearly missing the Continental Divide a few days ago, Laura's predilection for stopping at every historical marker has become stronger. Earlier today, she stopped at one in Utah and spoke with a group of eight Australians who were driving around in a mini-van (think Japanese tourists, except that they say "G'day" and don't wear those silly looking face shields). The historical marker was for a movie set used for westerns in the 50s, and the aussies were heard to say "too late". At which point, Laura asked, "What's too late?" and was told that the set had burnt down.... 2 weeks ago. Which of course had to be seen. So 30 minutes down a dirt road later, Laura found it and, I'm sure, took a few (dramatic?) photos that will eventually find their way to an internet near you.

When we spoke, she was in Kanab, UT, and about 200 miles short of the Google maps predicted mileage between Pittsburgh and Sunnyvale (taking the most direct route).

Into the West...

Laura has crossed the Mississippi in the St. Louis area. When I spoke to her this morning, she was about half way across Missouri, still on 70, and doing fine.
